British Columbia Government to proclaim ninth annual BC Book Day on April 17, 2023

The Province of British Columbia will proclaim Monday, April 17, 2023, as BC Book Day at an event to be held at the BC Legislature. BC Book Day brings together government and industry stakeholders, including BC publishers, authors, festival directors, librarians, and booksellers, to celebrate the literary landscape of our province.

This day also kicks off Creative Industries Week, which brings together stakeholders in film and television, digital entertainment, music and sound recording, and book and magazine publishing to showcase the growing contributions of the creative industries to the province’s economy.

A diverse range of BC books, magazines, and literary offerings will be on display at the Hall of Honour of the BC Legislature on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Remarks from The Hon. Lana Popham, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport will be given as part of the celebration at 12:10 p.m., followed by remarks from Bob D’Eith, Parliamentary Secretary for Arts, Culture, and Film, Teresa Wat, MLA for Richmond Centre and Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism, Anti-Racism Initiatives, Arts and Culture, Teddy Anderson, Board Member of Books BC and Publisher of Medicine Wheel Education, and Sylvia Skene, Executive Director of MagsBC. Victoria-based author Anny Scoones will give a reading to finish the remarks portion of the day.
